I was woken up at 4:30 last night with an Airwolf-style raid on a local burglary in progress. I complained to Surrey police for waking me up who quite rightly told me to shut up. They sent me a link to their helicopter logs, which are kind of interesting.

Looking forward to watching Gideons documentary on this, although it will be a shame if we are sucked in to a black hole or 5th dimension before BBC4 schedule it.

Kinda of good because something is happening and agreements are being made but I kinda hoped to see greater harmonisation across client languages. Javascript is competing with Java, Actionscript and Silverlight (supporting Ruby & Python as part of its DLR) for the client-side web application space. I dunno, maybe everything will end up being generated anyway.
Journalism have updated their live text commentary so you don't have to force a full page refresh every 60 seconds to get new updates. I thought it might be using some socket based thing but it's just polling :( Works nicely though :)

This is not the first thing I've read in the last couple of months that complains that standards-based client-side technology is not innovating & propegating it's self fast enough. This article suggests that embracing proprietary technology and forcing it to play better with open standards is the way to proceed.

Some good points. I do kind of agree that dynamicism in the client could be left to scripting or server-generated CSS.
A truly groundbreaking standard that describes how to shift one bit of text to another place on the screen in a fairly latitudinal manner.

Pesemistic outlook on open technology. Could be left way behind because of slow standards -> implementation -> propegation turn around.
